Why Promote & Normalize Them? | Neurotypical Women Bashing an Autistic For Being Featured in Vogue

Milan Fashion Week’s Biggest Model Wants to Change the Way We Think About Asperger’s

Few people had a busier Milan Fashion Week than Nina Marker, the Danish top model who has been present for the week’s biggest events. Whether she was stomping down the runway with the supermodels at Versace, joining the crowd at Angela Missoni’s 20th anniversary collection, or walking for Karl Lagerfeld at Fendi, Marker made her mark.

Given her schedule, it would have been easy for Marker to focus solely on the job, but just before Max Mara, she used Instagram to deliver a hopeful message. Sporting a T-shirt that read “Bee Kind, I Have Autism,” Marker reminded her followers that those on the neurodevelopmental disorder’s spectrum are more than capable of achieving their dreams. “It’s possible for us to be successful and have a good time,” she wrote in the caption. “Stay safe and protect your mind.” . . . Culture Clash | Autistic Erasure Starts At Home

af72d46c492a8c5e951cbca22315e369

This meme is an example of Autistic co-opting, appropriation and erasure.

Actual basic available options:

  • Autisic parent of Autistics.
  • Neurotypical parent of Autistics.

I am an Autistic mom to 2 Autistic kiddos and 1 Neurotypical kiddo.

Terms like Autism family, autism parent, autism dad and autism mom — NO. That’s co-opting and erasure. Continue reading Culture Clash | Autistic Erasure Starts At Home

Autism Fashion for #AutismMoms | #NeurodivergentFashion For #ActuallyAutistic Women, Autistic Moms & Autistic Moms of Autistics . . . Excluded. Like Always.

Source: Autism Awareness #FashionFriday – ColoradoMoms.com

For the record, this #ActuallyAutisticMom went to a public venue and had a good family night with her #ActuallyAutisticKid #ActuallyNotAutisticKid #TotallyNeurotypicalFiance and killed it with this fashion.

Beyond erasure and other bullshit — I’m offended Autism is related to such droll choices and color palette. Come on now, I got wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more style than that. Stop the insults already.

I emailed the letter below to all contact info I could find for Jeffree Star Cosmetics. Mainly, customer service.

Greetings,

Seeking support in #beautyforautistics campaign. I’m Eve Hinson (almost Reiland) and am Autistic — also an activist, writer and artist.

First, Autism is not what most folks think it is — even neurotypical (non-autistic) parents of autistics can be clueless about our community and culture. Autistics are actually in the middle of a huge civil rights movement.

But beyond that to glittery, metallic things — Autistics want makeup marketed to them – not about them for non-autistics. Right now makeup companies are ignoring actually Autistic women, and marketing their products to neurotypical moms of autistic kids. Worse they are using proceeds to donate to Autism Speaks — actually Autistic consider them a hate group and mega corp. Not the grassroots organization folks think. Ugh. #BeautyforAutistics | Twitter Message Sent to NYX, L’Oreal and others

21369017_10154811673102823_4770756918845866026_oI love your products soooo much. breaks my heart L’Oreal supports Autism Speaks — and markets to neurotypical (not-autistic) moms of autistic kids.

There is a HUGE community of us worldwide – 70 million strong. Two trends among autistic fashion – is loud, here I am (like me) and then the very natural look. Sensitivity is huge for our skin and scents and many other things that could be taken into consideration for this market.

Please market to we are here, we are real, and omg I’ve been a loyal customer for years and don’t want to boycott my favorite things. Believe me, autistic brand loyalty is like nothing you’ve seen.

So please, support actually autistic approved organizations and market directly to us . So damn awkward hearing about Autistics like we can’t hear folks talking about us. Please support us in Here’s an example of what marketing could look like . . .

L’Oreal, Kiehls, Urban Decay and the Autistic Community – YouTube

Here’s some reasons and my extreme rant against the way L’Oreal and their subsidiaries are TONE DEAF towards the autistic community. How can you support autism speaks and ignore an actual autistic person? How can you be insensitive to those with sensory problems or mobility problems by creating an uneven playing field?
